Consistently exceptional: Mardouw scoops a much coveted Platinum award at the 2021 London Olive Oil Awards.
Platinum, a precious silvery-white metal, was first encountered in the 16th century and has been used in the most sought-after jewellery ever since. Today, it can be found on the bottle of Mardouw’s Medium Extra Virgin Olive Oil!
Every year, olive oils from all over the world are submitted for organoleptic tastings to jury panels from Greece, Italy, Spain, the USA, the Netherlands, Turkey, Israel, Slovenia, Tunisia, Brazil, Portugal and France – olive oil experts cherry-picked especially for the London Olive Oil Awards. Hundreds of olive oils are swirled, sniffed, slurped, swallowed and ranked blindly and anonymously into categories of bronze, silver, gold and platinum.
“This award is consistent with Mardouw’s international recognition,” beams André Verder, owner of the Swellendam-based olive estate. “It’s the culmination of a long process that is driven by determined and pinpoint-precise investment, farming and pressing. But still, to be awarded the highest accolade by an international jury in a toughly adjudicated competition, is a real feather in Mardouw’s cap. It shows that our proudly South African olive oils mustn’t shy away from rubbing shoulders with some of the best Mediterranean olive oils.”
Mardouw’s Medium Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made of a blend of cultivars, including FS17, grown at the private Mardouw olive estate at the foothills of the Langeberg Mountains in Swellendam. It is available from selected Woolworths, Pick ‘n Pay and Spar stores, or can be ordered online from mardouw.com.
